It was all in the head

Article Abstract:

Guardian newspaper Film Editor Simon Hattenstone has forgiven his father for not realizing that he was seriously ill when he was suffering from encephalitis between the ages of nine and 12. He feels that his relationship with his father was probably saved when he suffered pneumonia, which his father spotted. He remains close to his mother, who always believed that he was seriously ill. He feels that he was betrayed by other members of his family, who refused to believe that he was ill.

Meet the new Les Dawson

Article Abstract:

Comedian Peter Kay expresses surprise at the speed at which he has become well-known. He often feels that his stage act is shallow compared with those of other comedians, and fears that his success may come to a sudden end. He regards himself as a born entertainer, although he feels that the art of comedy is not entirely instinctive. He believes that it is necessary to learn about stagecraft and timing, and draws extensively on his own experiences for his material.

Something funny's going on

Article Abstract:

There are currently very few female stand-up comedians in the UK. However, women are playing an increasingly significant role in managing male stand-up comedians. These women feel that women are not attracted to performing stand-up comedy because it is a very male-dominated, competitive environment. Women in comedy management tend to work in small teams, having found that this gives them valuable focus.
