Keep chasing that fox, Mr Blair, and you'll take the wrong turning

Article Abstract:

The campaign against fox-hunting can be regarded as a typical New Labour cause, both politically correct and popular. The government could gain support for introducing a ban on fox-hunting, and such a move would not cost anything. Indeed, a ban could actually bring in some revenue. In political terms, a ban on fox-hunting would have an impact on a significant element of the coalition of interests that New Labour has assembled. There is a danger that the Parliamentary Labour Party will sacrifice the right to roam to its obsession with banning fox-hunting.
