Liberal Democrats have a noble tradition, but it needs redefining

Article Abstract:

New UK Liberal Democrats leader Charles Kennedy will have to make difficult decisions. However, he should not, and will not, have his attention taken away from the issue of House of Commons electoral reform. It appears increasingly unlikely that a referendum on this issue will take place before the next general election. Furthermore, even those in the Labour party who are most committed to maintaining cooperation with the Liberal Democrats have reservations about whether their own party would support more than a move to the Alternative Vote.
