Memoirs of an accidental mass murderer

Article Abstract:

The memoirs of Adolf Eichmann, who was head of the Gestapo's Jewish department, will shortly be available via the Internet. Eichmann played a key role in the murder of Jews in concentration camps, but managed to escape after the second world war. He was subsequently spotted in Argentina and taken to Israel, where he stood trial and was executed in May 1962. He acknowledges in his memoirs that he may have had a flawed personality as a result of his harsh upbringing, but claims that it had been his destiny to carry out orders.

Racism seeps into respectable German life

Article Abstract:

It is widely believed in Germany that foreigners are responsible for many crimes. Despite this, there is generally little friction between Germans and foreigners. The issue of foreigners' involvement in crime has only really been highlighted because politicians are seeking to exploit it in the run-up to the election in Sep 1998. Chancellor Helmut Kohl is being forced to campaign on internal security, and for this reason is speaking out against the perceived involvement of foreigners in crime.
