Movie-making: it's no game

Article Abstract:

It is widely believed that films are becoming more like video games. Similarly, software publishers seek to include cinematic elements in their games. It is rumoured that there are plans for film adaptations of all leading video games. Most recently, Ben Affleck's production company has been considering purchasing the rights for a film version of Outcast, the new Belgian science-fiction game. However, most attempts to produce a film adaptation of popular video games have not been successful.

Small enough to take on Godzilla

Article Abstract:

The Vila do Conde International Short Film Festival, which has been held near Oporto, Portugal, each year since 1992, aims to promote one-, two- and three-reel films. In 1998, more than 1,100 films were submitted for the International Competition, 200 more than in any previous year. Some of the most impressive work at the 1998 festival was produced in countries which do not have an international reputation for filmmaking. These include Burkina Faso, Chad and Azerbaijan.
