Article Abstract:
Italy made its first contribution to modern art through Futurism, a movement made up of many different people but united by journalist Emilio Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. He shunned gallery art, and for this reason Futurism's paintings are not particularly impressive. Indeed, they can only really be seen as historical curiosities. The most significant expressions of Futurism were performance and typography. Futurism was particularly influential in capturing and conveying the mood of the early 20th century.
