Morality, ethics and interference

Article Abstract:

Very mixed views have been expressed about the court decision not to allow Diane Blood to become pregnant by using sperm collected from her deceased husband. Her case has been supported by fertility expert Lord Winston, Professor of Fertility Studies at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London, England, who believes that the court decision was cruel. There is a widespread belief that an injustice has taken place, although some observers feel that it would not be appropriate to bring into the world a child who will never have a father.

This fight will go to 15 rounds

Article Abstract:

UK home secretary Michael Howard has regularly clashed with members of the judiciary over recent years. Most recently, his plans to introduce mandatory heavier sentencing for some repeat offenders were criticised by Lord Taylor, the Lord Chief Justice. It is unlikely that this situation will improve, even when current leading members of the judiciary are replaced. This is because the UK has no clear separation of powers between the executive, the legislature and the judiciary.

Major finds time for cricket amid diplomacy

Article Abstract:

There are extensive international contacts taking place behind the scenes over the growing problem of hostage-taking by Bosnian Serbs, but the UK government is trying to convey the impression of remaining calm. The UK has held crisis talks with the US and Germany, and efforts are being made to save the international mission in Bosnia, despite threats by France to withdraw its troops there.
