Mr Portillo, the Great Political Crusader, is ultimately doomed

Article Abstract:

It can be argued that Michael Portillo will never become leader of the UK Conservative party. There is too much excitement surrounding him, and he has already become burdened by an aura that is normally only associated with successful party leaders. He has consciously manipulated this aura at certain times, but it is now out of his control. He has ceased to be significant as a person, and has been built up into a crusader who will transform the Conservative party.
