Nat Gonella

Trumpeter, vocalist and bandleader Nat Gonella began his career as a performer by playing the trumpet in Archie Pitt's Busby Boys. He appeared with this band in the musical show 'A Week's Pleasure,' and established a friendship with Gracie Fields, whose husband led the band. He subsequently joined a show band led by Bob Dryden, but in 1929 joined Billy Cotton's band, making his first recording. He established a friendship with Louis Armstrong when Armstrong came to the UK in Jul 1932.

Shake Keane

Article Abstract:

Trumpet and flugelhorn player Ellsworth 'Shake' Keane was taught music by his father. He began his working life as a teacher in St Vincent, but in 1952 came to London University to study literature. He joined Joe Harriott's quintet in 1960, but completed his studies at the London School of Economics in 1962. He took on studio work in the early 1960s, and worked mainly for orchestra leader Kurt Edelhagen between 1965 and 1972.

Trumpeter Secondo 'Conte' Candoli was born in Mishawaka, IN, in 1927. He joined Woody Herman's First Herd at the age of 16 and played his first solo on record in Jun 1945. He joined the Stan Kenton band in Apr 1948.
