Nino Ferrer

Article Abstract:

Nino Ferrer was a musician and painter who started his musical career playing jazz, and became famous for popular songs released in the 1960s, and which he despised. He moved to Italy and headed a TV variety show. He met the Heavy Metal Kids in 1972 and this led to a concept album, Nino Ferrer and Legs. This album and Blanat were criticised in France due to being in England. Ferrer was also an anti-nuclear protester and an anti-militarist. He shot himself in Aug 1998.

Alain Marion

Article Abstract:

Alain Marion was a musician who taught and played the flute, and helped preserve the French tradition of flute playing. He was born in 1938 and studied under Joseph Rampal at the Conservatoire in Marseilles, France. He played in ORTF's chamber orchestra and was able to tackle all musical styles. He stressed the importance of carrying out technical exercises every day and saw exercise as a way for students to solve all problems related to playing the flite.

Robert Spencer

Article Abstract:

Robert Spencer was a singer and musicologist who also played the lute and guitar. He was born in 1932 and was interested in music from his early childhood. He studied with Julian Bream at Dartington Summer School and worked as a librarian after leaving school. He then obtained funds to study at Dartington Music School for three years. He was a teacher at the Royal Academy of Music, London, England, where he first taught lute, and he sent 23 years there.
