The Lite show

Article Abstract:

The British Broadcasting Corp (BBC) is changing the presentation of Newsnight, a news magazine, which will have Jeremy Paxman as presenter, with celebrities and cultural items. This type of format has previously been tried and has boosted audience figures, but there is concern that serious current affairs reporting could become neglected. The government's press supremos are also concerned to present the government in a good light and this is also seen as a factor underlying the change by some critics.

This man is not talking a lot of hot air

Article Abstract:

Martin Lambie-Nairn is one of the top graphic designers and art directors working in the television brand identity sector. He has been responsible for devising a new on-screen identity for BBC1, and his corporate identity design skills played a key role in taking Channel 4 through its early days. Television branding is becoming an increasingly profitable sector, with the average television company in the UK now using the equivalent of 200 million pounds sterling-worth of screen time to promote itself.

BBC beware: Scotland is set to go it alone

Article Abstract:

It is clear that the BBC would suffer if Scotland split away from the British state. It would lose around a tenth of its licence fees, and would no longer play a role in holding the nation together. It must be realized that the BBC, like other public broadcasters, cannot remain truly neutral when the country it serves is under threat from a secessionist movement. Broadcasting devolution will inevitably have some political impact, with a more Scottish BBC increasing pro-Scottish sentiment in Scotland.
