'No daytime DJ can come in in the morning and put on some great band he heard the night before. Unless they're on the playlist.' (deciding which records get played)

Article Abstract:

Radio 1 has been working hard recently to retain its position as the most popular radio station in the UK, running a series of advertisements focusing on different members of staff and allowing the public to gain an insight into how the station operates. However, ordinary people still know very little about how Radio 1 chooses which music to play and about what motivates these decisions. In fact, it has a playlist, which is a selection of records which it commits itself to playing in rotation, and the presenters are allowed very little personal input into their programmes.

He's out of our lives

Article Abstract:

Michael Jackson dances his moonwalk alone even when others are in the dance. He is remote from the real world and from his younger performances. His tour pictures show him before and after plastic surgery, a changed person. On stage he appears out of nowhere as if he is unreal. Although he is a prominent black celebrity he does not usually have political objectives. His song 'Heal the World' does not make him a successful crusader.

Forgive, but never forget

Article Abstract:

Former pop star Dean Friedman admits that the song for which he is most well known, 'Lucky Stars,' was rather corny, and does not object to being mocked for it. However, he feels frustrated that many people will only know him for this song, thus gaining an incorrect image of him. He has now moved on to other activities within the music industry in the hope of being taken more seriously.
