No sign of panic down on the farm

Article Abstract:

Farmers are concerned about the growing number of reports about possible health risks from eating beef, but have not reached the stage of panic, according to North Yorkshire livestock farmer Martin Burtt. They feel that the media is presenting a very one-sided view of this issue, and emphasise that they are certain that there is no health risk at all. However, they also believe that more money should be invested in research at centres such as the Neuropathogenesis Unit in Edinburgh.

The outsider who laid down the law

Article Abstract:

It is vital that the Law Society represents the views of small, independent lawyers, according to new president Martin Mears, who has attracted considerable controversy. He points out that many lawyers working alone have gone out of business over recent years, with many of those remaining earning only very small sums. He has come to personify the anger of many lawyers who feel that the status of the profession is being gradually eroded.

Down the A3 to the Middle Ages

Article Abstract:

The county of Surrey is regarded as characterising the most charming aspects of the south of England. However, its residents, who are healthier and wealthier than any other Britons, also show snobbish and selfish attitudes. They tend to look towards the past, rather than the future, and image that they are part of the UK's rural heritage. This is in fact not really the case, as the county has very little true countryside.
