Nursing a booming business

Article Abstract:

Twenty years ago there were hardly any privately run care facilities for elderly and dependent patients but since then the private nursing and residential homes market has grown to 3.3 billion pounds sterling. There are six specialist companies quoted on the stock exchange with a market value of 375 million pounds sterling. Private faciities now meet two thirds of the 232,000 nursing home beds demand in Britain and over half the 313,000 bed residential home demand. The population of people aged over 75 and over 85 will increase by 15% to 3.8 million and 40% to one million respectively by the year 2005.

Poised for advancement in the new board game

Article Abstract:

The Opportunity 2000 charter was launched to promote women in business. Few companies signed it, but it will soon be imperative for all companies to redesign their employment policies to attract women. In future years demand for graduates will outstrip supply, and it is those companies which have changed policies to take into account women's different employment and training needs that will attract women graduates to make up the shortfall. Only 61 companies signed the charter but psychologists from Leeds University have reported that women are natural business leaders.
