Old boy network? Forget it. Best get a first

Article Abstract:

Many investment banks are still recruiting large numbers of graduates, even though consolidation is taking place in the sector. These banks generally seek graduates who have a very strong academic record, and are particularly attracted to those who have a second language, especially if it is an unusual one. Many graduates who enter investment banking have postgraduate qualifications. Leading investment banks are increasingly recruiting on an international level.

Oodles of money? Don't bank on it

Article Abstract:

It is becoming much less common in the UK for young people who take employment in investment banking to receive very high salaries. The sector has become extremely competitive, and this means that banks are greatly reducing margins. Furthermore, job security can be very limited. The recruitment process is very demanding, and employers seek a wide range of abilities. Previous work experience can be very useful, as can the ability to speak a foreign language.

UK: MORGAN STANLEY FREEZES CITY RECRUITMENT

Article Abstract:

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter has put an informal freeze on London recruitment. It is a sign that investment banks fear that the halt in new issues and mergers may continue into the New Year. Morgan Stanley is also expected to announce lower fourth-quarter earnings. It has suffered heavily from the collapse of tech stocks. It has tried to remain quiet about the hiring freeze but it will continue with recruitment visits to the top business schools.
