One good man, a trivial little tale and his obsessive code of honour

Article Abstract:

The recent suicide of Admiral Jeremy 'Mike' Boorda, chief of US naval operations, has caused great surprise. His suicide was prompted when he learnt that the National Security News Service (NSNS), which supplies news about the armed forces to the media, was shortly to reveal that he wore V-pins, which denote that someone has risked their life in combat, to which he was not entitled. He had discovered his error some time earlier, and had stopped wearing the pins, but his very strong sense of honour led him to consider a drastic step.

Scourge of the world sits tight

Article Abstract:

There is considerable international interest in whether Jesse Helms will be able to defeat efforts by Harvey Gantt to become Democratic Senator for North Carolina. This is because Helms, as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has caused many problems in the UN and has often delayed ambassadorial appointments. However, observers believe that North Carolina has become more conservative over recent years, and this will work in favour of Helms.

One final mission, objectives unknown

Article Abstract:

Senator Bob Dole has displayed great determination in his efforts to win the presidency of the US. Now, at the age of 72, he looks set to gain the Republican party's presidential nomination. He admits to having no vision, but has gained a reputation as a legislator of great ability. He still lacks charisma, but has been able to gain support by showing a clear understanding of the mechanics of politics.
