Article Abstract:

General Colin Powell has ruled out any possibility of running for the US presidency. He is aware of having become a symbol of the great desire for racial healing in the US, and felt that this was incompatible with a political role. It is also likely that he was deterred from becoming a high profile politician by the recent assassination of Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin. His family have always been opposed to him becoming a politician because of the danger to his life.

Range war heading for Supreme Court

Article Abstract:

The case of cattleman Dick Carver, commissioner of Nye County in Nevada, who is making a stand against federal ownership of large areas of land, could have wide-reaching implications. At present, a third of the whole of the US and 87% of Nevada is owned in perpetuity by the federal government. The case is now to be considered by the Supreme Court, at a time when there is a growing popular sentiment against federal government control.
