Patients put at risk by medical research fraud

Article Abstract:

The Committee on Publication Ethics has discovered that several unethical medical research results are being published undetected. This poses a risk to patients and is said to undermine the credibility of scientific institutions. Over the last 12 months some 27 cases of this have been detected although many more are thought to remain uncaptured. Examples include plagiarism, fraudulent results/research, manipulation of data and the publication of the same research in more than one journal. In some cases patients were unknowingly exposed to the serious side effects of certain drugs without their knowledge or consent for the experiments.

Posters: a career in the great outdoors

Article Abstract:

The UK poster sector is expanding at around 12% a year, and this means that exciting job opportunities are emerging. Outdoor advertising is dominated by five major contractors, which offer the usual employee benefits associated with large companies. Poster Publicity, the largest poster-buying specialist in the UK, reports that half the staff it recruits are now graduates. Indeed, many of the major contractors offer graduate schemes, allowing recruits to gain experience in areas including marketing, research and sales.
