Pushing back the frontiers of space

Article Abstract:

Many companies are looking to cut costs by reducing the amount of office space they use. This trend can sometimes be incompatible with the growing pressure put on employees by companies as the business environment becomes increasingly competitive. These include regarding the workplace as an integrated environment, providing quiet space, home working and the use of computers.

Over 1,000 assistant solicitors and some salaried partners have lost their jobs in 1992. Corporate clients have objected to high charges and use competitive tendering. Some companies have restricted the career progression of their employees.
