Real life and other tall stories

Article Abstract:

Many writers are drawn to true lives as a basis for dramatized stories. However, this means that they can encounter confusion regarding the relationship between historical truth and dramatic truth and regarding their responsibility as a writer of dramatic stories to the true stories which form their basis. They must be aware that it is easy to deceive themselves that they are acting responsibly, especially if they distance themselves from the real lives from which they draw their raw material. One safeguard may be to only ever write about people they admire.

Children who care: their stories are different

Article Abstract:

Children who care for a sick or disabled relative show maturity, and are able to deal with the responsibilities of their role, according to research undertaken by the Open University's Health and Social Welfare unit. However, children who care cannot easily be categorized. Most seem quite happy, but they can also experience feelings of anger and resentment. Caring can have a significant impact on how children see themselves, even once they are no longer fulfilling a caring role.
