Salvation on the screen

Article Abstract:

Successful novelist Zoe Fairbairns suffered several anxious years of writer's block during which time she had to return the advance from her publisher and take on other employment. Fairbairns wrote the landmark feminist novel 'Benefits' in 1979 but failed to follow this immediately with another, better novel. Fairbairns felt anxious about having to be continuously productive and claims she became intellectually tired. She now works as a television subtitler and enjoys the lack of pressure associated with permanent employment.

The pilgrimage from salvage to salvation

Article Abstract:

Architectural Salvage in Islington, London, England, offers a very wide range of fixtures from old buildings. These have been cleaned and renovated, and are then sold as spare parts for period homes or to people who wish to add authentic touches. The business has flourished with a strong trend towards conservation and away from modernisation. The goods are often hired out as stage and film props.
