Seductive mind over matter

Article Abstract:

The best works of art are those which create some kind of connection in the observer's mind, even if there is no immediate clear picture, according to artist Cathy de Monchaux. Her work is currently being exhibited at the Whitechapel Gallery in London, England. Viewers tend to find that her work, which effectively combines and contrasts different materials, plays on their mind and produces multiple associations. This is particularly the case with 'Never Forget the Power of Tears,' which uses luxurious material and has great attention to detail.

Lord of the trance

Article Abstract:

There is a history of links between music and theatre, according to actor and dramatist Steven Berkoff. He is particularly well known for playing evil villains, and it was this characteristic which made dance band N-Trance interested in him. The band requested him to imitate the voice of a machine on its new album, 'The Mind of The Machine.' He believes that putting language to music makes it more emotive and coherent, and has strong views about how rock music should be produced.

Back to the future

Article Abstract:

Pop group Heaven 17 first became known in the 1980s, emerging from the break-up of the Human League. The group's style was neo-modernist, as opposed to the new romantic trend of the era, and was characterised by ironic, funky dance sounds. The group is still together, and has recently recorded a new album, 'Bigger Than America.' This is minimalistic, featuring repetitive rhythms and mobile sounds. The sound is reminiscent of Steve Reich or Philip Glass.
