Sending a message to the Serbs

Article Abstract:

The United Nations must show firm resolve in the face of hostage-taking by the Bosnian Serbs, indicating that acting in this way will no longer bring concessions. United Nations countries must also show a united front, with partnership between troops being reflected in partnership between diplomats from different nations. Particular emphasis must be placed on the moral issue of using hostages as human shields, which contravenes the Geneva Convention.

How to hold China in our hands

Article Abstract:

The transfer of Hong Kong from UK sovereignty to Chinese rule will become a key issue in UK foreign policy in the near future. The UK cannot completely step down from its responsibility for Hong Kong, and must ensure that Hong Kong retains democratic structures which will help to preserve its differences from China. Acting positively in Hong Kong will be vital if the UK is to establish strong links with China.

Are we ever going to cry 'enough'?

Article Abstract:

The west's reaction to Serb attacks on Srebrenica, Zepa and Gorazde has been entirely inappropriate. Very little positive action has been taken, and western countries do not seem to be approaching the problem with the urgency it deserves. Many refugees have already gone missing, and the situation has now reached catastrophe point.
