Edwardian sex therapist Marie Stopes was extremely influential, being a pioneer of birth control clinics and the writer of the first sex manual. However, there were also negative aspects to her work. She emphasised the 'perfection of the race,' an idea very close to those put forward by the fascists, and had serious problems within her own family. She almost completely severed links with her son Harry when he announced his engagement.

It is vital to fight against discrimination against people from ethnic minority groups in the UK, even if this means alienating the white establishment, according to Sukhvinder Stubbs, new director of the Runnymede Trust, the independent think-tank on race relations. She plans to work towards improving relations between ethnic minorities, and believes that she will be able to offer strong personal experience in her work.
