She's gotta have it

Article Abstract:

Advertisement director Sara Dunlop is keen to establish a career as a film director. She has already gained a strong reputation for her determination and commitment, and has been assisted by her willingness to be influenced by a range of sources and techniques. She has directed a number of successful advertisements, and has also been involved with a video for the debut single of girl-band T-Shirt. She feels that she has been hampered by the fact that she is only in her early 20s, but has been able to take advantage of being a woman in a male-dominated environment.

Please, sir - can I have some more?

Article Abstract:

It is important that the skill of requesting a pay rise is learnt, even if actually making the request can seem very daunting. It is useful to begin by identifying possible allies in the workplace who may be prepared to back up your request. Attention must be given to communication skills, especially selecting the right tone. It is important to choose the right time to request a pay rise and to show that you have carefully considered why you feel that you merit a rise. It is also worth looking at alternatives, such as training or an extra childcare payment.
