So is Heat ever going to be hot enough?

Article Abstract:

Publishing concern Emap invested extensively in the launch of weekly entertainment magazine Heat in Feb 1999. However, this magazine is now selling only 60,000 copies a week, and is set to lose at least 5 million pounds sterling in 1999. Emap has recognized that there is a need to make changes to Heat and the way in which it is marketed, but feels that there is still potential for the magazine to be successful. A key problem is that Heat does not belong to any existing categories, but many newspapers and magazines already cover many of the same topics.

Comment:

Has reported that its new entertainment magazine Heat has a poor weekly circulation of 60,000 copies

Considering this is the number one google hit for 'is it ever going to be enough?'. I'd say, no. Also, 4000 characters max for a comment, just ain't enough.

Have you got the balls for women's work?

Article Abstract:

The women's magazine sector in the UK is extremely competitive, and working in this environment can be very challenging. Employers primarily seek staff with a good business sense, and are willing to train people in the skills they require. New recruits to women's magazine publishing may begin in classified sales, later gaining experience in areas including agency sales or display work. The most successful employees are those who show intelligence and adaptability, regardless of whether they are male or female.

High style comes home

Article Abstract:

High fashion magazine Wallpaper* has commissioned a 95 sq mt bungalow from Swedish architect Thomas Sandell. This house, which is being shown at the Salone del Mobile show in Milan, Italy, has a range of high-tech features, including wood effect wall material that allows light in. This is a new departure in magazine merchandising, but is effective because it is true to the personality of the magazine, which is both glamorous and kitsch.
