So who will be the new radicals?

Article Abstract:

It is important to resist the temptation to dismiss poet Allen Ginsberg, who died recently, as simply a relic of the hippy generation. It must be remembered that he was always optimistic and that he was deeply involved with the real world, characteristics which mark him out from the hippy generation. He was much more than a poet, and was very active in making connections and organising events. He moved easily between the underground and the straight world, and saw poetry as a force for social change.

She lived in search of love; she died not knowing how much her people loved her

Article Abstract:

The strength of public reaction in the UK to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, indicates that she will continue to have a significant impact on the national consciousness for many years to come. She will become an idol, especially as she died while she was still young and beautiful. She was a totally modern woman, and the tragedy of her death is the tragedy of the modern world. Like society as a whole, she lived many contradictions and at times openly acknowledged them.

Banish these design Nazis

Article Abstract:

Interior designers have begun to have a significant influence on ordinary Britons in the 1990s. There are many television programmes focusing on interior design, and this gives people the impression that they must constantly redecorate their home to keep up with latest trends. Ordinary people are made to feel that their own ideas of taste are no longer good enough and that they must copy the ideas of interior designers, who can be dictatorial.
