Article Abstract:

Collective investments are an attractive way of spreading the risk associated with investing in the stock market. These products invest in a number of different companies' shares, instead of just one. The main types of collective investments are open-ended investment companies, unit trusts and investment trusts. With a unit trust, a fund is split into equal units that can be bought and sold. An investment trust is a company in which anybody can purchase and sell shares. Open-ended investment companies can change the number of shares they issue to align with demand.

On the move

Article Abstract:

It is vital to make some basic financial decisions before deciding to move house. Advice must be taken on how much can be borrowed, for example, and care must be taken to consider what sort of mortgage will be most suitable. It is important to bear in mind that there will be removal and legal costs, although these could be balanced out by a mortgage which also involves a cash offer. It is wise to bear in mind that there will be ongoing costs on top of the monthly mortgage payments.

Insuring a healthy income

Article Abstract:

Purchasing permanent health insurance and critical illness cover can give protection against financial hardship in the case of a long-term illness. Permanent health insurance policies offer a regular income if the policyholder is unable to work as a result of an accident or illness. Such insurance has become increasingly important since the UK government introduced new legislation in 1995 which made fewer people eligible for Incapacity Benefit.
