Steering Lotus Cars down a tricky course

Article Abstract:

Mr Adrian Palmer, the new managing director of Lotus Cars, has a marketing background, unlike most Lotus chief executives. Mr Palmer was born in 1952 in Scunthorpe and has a passion for high-performance cars. Lotus has been owned by General Motors since 1986 and has 2,000 buyers a year. Over-production was limited by a five-week cut in 1992. In May, Palmer plans new models and new designs for the Esprit. Lotus is small and innovative but will gain from GM funding and parts availability. The basics of Vauxhalls and Opels may become bases for Lotus bodies and engines.

A grey area for the boys in blue

Article Abstract:

Many British motorists are now investing in a radar detector costing 125-400 pounds sterling which allows them to receive advance warning of a police speed trap. However, using such equipment could lead to a fine of up to 5,000 pounds sterling. The law on the use of radar detectors is unclear, and there has been no test case so far.
