Taiwan mourns loss of the little friend stolen by big brother

Article Abstract:

The decision by the government of St Lucia to switch its allegiance from Taiwan to China is the latest stage in the battle between China and Taiwan to gain supremacy over each other through diplomatic means. St Lucia has aligned itself with China mainly for financial reasons, with China granting $1 million of immediate aid in the form of school textbooks. China's influence in Hong Kong is also a significant factor, with St Lucia hoping that it can boost trading links with Hong Kong.

Will China invade Taiwan?

Article Abstract:

It is becoming increasingly likely that China will decide to undertake an invasion of Taiwan. It is uncertain whether Taiwan will be able to remain in its present situation, where it is has only semi-official diplomatic recognition, especially as its economy becomes increasingly powerful. Wide-reaching changes in China, which is also seen the development of a strong economy, will make it impossible for the present situation to persist.

Taiwan and China do the sabre dance

Article Abstract:

Relations between China and Taiwan have deteriorated considerably recently, particularly since Taiwanese president Lee Teng-hui made a 'private visit' to the US in Jun 1995. China has been demonstrating its military power, and now Taiwan is to undertake a military exercise too. Some observers believe that China could even go as far as to invade Taiwan.
