The Tories take a few baby steps towards democracy

Article Abstract:

UK Conservative party leader William Hague is showing strong determination to reform the party rapidly. He has demonstrated that he has learned many lessons from the severe problems that afflicted the Labour party after its election defeat in 1979, and has been able to introduce a one member one vote system into a party that has no tradition of membership democracy. The Conservative party is clearly struggling to retain credibility, but commendable efforts are being made to revamp it for a more positive future.

Hague's gang go corporate bonding

Article Abstract:

UK Conservative party leader William Hague is determined to restructure and modernize the party. He believes that this will be partly achieved through adopting a form of corporate strategy which will bring the party's MPs together and encourage them to accept the need for change. He will be closely assisted in his efforts by Conservative MP Archie Norman, who was responsible for establishing a strong position for the Asda supermarket chain, and by consultancy firm McKinseys.
