The cryonics game

Article Abstract:

Cryonics is gaining in credibility as people gradually come to accept that the idea of life extension is no longer completely unfeasible. Scientists are making considerable progress in areas such as gene-mapping and nanotechnology, and ordinary people are looking at ways of slowing down the ageing process. Middle age is now seen as the time to take up new activities, and older people are no longer prepared to accept physical decline. The recent Alcor Cryonics Technology Festival in Arizona reflected these trends.

New Labour, new dancing

Article Abstract:

Swing dancing began to enjoy a revival in popularity in San Francisco, CA, in the early 1990s, and its popularity is now spreading east. There is particular interest in the Lindy Hop, which originated in Harlem in the 1920s. Swing dancing creates a relaxed atmosphere, and is being welcomed by many young people as an alternative to tuneless grunge music. Younger swing dancers are particularly attracted to modern groups such as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, while older dancers prefer big band music.

The incredible disappearing Babes

Article Abstract:

The UK Labour party seems to have been carefully avoiding debate about women's issues, according to women's groups and other observers. The party has so far been making excuses for this situation, but will not be able to continue doing so for much longer. Campaigners are increasing pressure on the party to make a clear commitment at the highest levels to women's issues, pointing out that it is no longer satisfactory merely to have women in high-profile positions within the party itself.
