The ears have it

Article Abstract:

Clive Davis, president of Arista Records, originally trained as a lawyer at New York City University and Harvard and became head of Columbia in 1966 in a reorganisation. In 1972 Columbia was investigated for suspected bribery of black radio stations but Davis was cleared and established Arista. He then began listening to music and personally selected Whitney Houston, Janis Joplin, Blood Sweat and Tears, Santana and others. He had no musical training but he does listen to artists personally and makes creative decisions.

'There was always a little snigger in the voice when they said 'I'll have an E, please, Bob'.' (quiz show host Bob Holness)(Interview)

Article Abstract:

Quiz show host Bob Holness became extremely popular through 'Blockbusters,' which was dropped by ITV in 1993. He is now to return to television as the host of a new quiz, 'Raise the Roof,' which is designed to increase ITV's Saturday evening ratings as it faces stronger competition from the BBC. He had become partly retired, and had not been looking for more television work. However, he is very excited about this new project.

Bryan Gould shows flashes of frustration. Admitting a sneaking regard for Mrs Thatcher, he says: 'I could have done better than I did.' (former Labour politician)(Interview)

Article Abstract:

Former Labour MP Bryan Gould never succeeded in his attempts to become party leader in the early 1990s because he was too strongly anti-European. He remained in the party for a time after Neil Kinnock became leader, but he has since moved to New Zealand, where he is chancellor of Waikato University. He has found it hard to adjust to no longer being a politician, but enjoys being able to state his opinions openly.
