The pleasure principle goes commercial

Article Abstract:

It is becoming increasingly common in the UK for empty industrial buildings in the centre of large cities to be converted into residential accommodation. Some of this housing is extremely expensive, but other accommodation is being offered at reasonable prices. There is currently particular interest in residential properties of unusual size in locations previously associated with commercial activity. This reflects the growing realization that there can be advantages associated with dense urban living.

Beauty is in the eye of the freeholder

Article Abstract:

It was very challenging to transform a Nissen hut on a clifftop in Pembrokeshire, Wales, into a building that was part of the environment, according to architect Jan Kaplicky, who worked on the project for Labour MP Bob Marshall-Andrews with Amanda Levete, co-director of Future Systems. He has gained a strong reputation for innovative design and for his desire for all objects to be beautiful. He bemoans the fact that ugliness now seems to be the norm for architecture.
