The first cut is the deepest

Article Abstract:

Michael Tolkin, author and adaptor of 'The Player', has directed his first film, 'The Rapture.' He wrote it originally as a 20-page film. Mimi Rogers plays the part of a telephone operator who becomes converted to Christianity. The sales pitch suggested that the film would attract some of the 35-50 million born-again Christians in America. It was variously received but did break even. 'The Player' was directed by Bob Altman who expanded much of it and introduced humour. Tolkin would have followed the book more closely but he thinks it is the director's job to add something to the story. He thinks that screenwriters do not have power and are usually rewritten.

'The Last of the Mohicans' is one of the most famous sympathetic film and it is about to be reshot again, along with two new films on Christopher Columbus which will also tackle the sensitive subject of colonisation. To help Indians portray their own culture the Canadian Film Board has established a studio for Indian and Inuit film-makers.
