The joy of being on the left

Article Abstract:

Many observers believe that left-wingers should be satisfied now that there is a Labour government in the UK. However, a key element of being on the left wing of the political spectrum is that you are never satisfied. Left-wingers still feel the need to speak out strongly against inequality, pointing out that the government's emphasis on social exclusion cannot be used to obscure the reality of genuine material hardship. To be genuinely left wing means that you have to constantly complain and never feel satisfied with the status quo.

Don't tell me about re-branding Britain, you'll never get it anyway

Article Abstract:

The UK Labour party is trying extremely hard to present a contemporary image. It is possible to argue that this strategy will never be successful. Prime Minister Tony Blair is in fact bland and mainstream, and should simply focus on being good at his job, rather than trying to be cool. The government should accept that its Panel 2000, an initiative in which 33 famous people will work to assist the Labour party in presenting a positive contemporary image, will never be successful in forging a future for the UK.

Welcome to the Amazons

Article Abstract:

The position of senior women in the UK government tends to have similarities with that of women in the corporate sector. It is common for companies controlled by men to have women in leading personnel management positions, and this seems to be happening in the government too. Within the government, women will serve to balance out disputes between male ministers, and will ensure that the flow of legislation through the House of Commons is organized appropriately.
