The lady killers

Article Abstract:

There are a number of movies which could be called 'kitchen gothic' at the Edinburgh Film Festival, Scotland, in 1997. The movies include Cindy Sherman's 'Office Killer' in which a woman kills her work colleagues and takes their corpses home to relate to them. These movies focus on sex and death, like the old Romantic concerns, except that the Romantics focused on dead women, and the new movies focus on dead male bodies. They deal with sickness and female desire and are linked to feminine masochism which links sexuality and pain.

Time to act like common people

Article Abstract:

Television drama in the UK continues to show the working class in a very stereotyped way. Working class families are often portrayed as dysfunctional, and working class characters seem to be devoid of any aspiration, wit or pursuit of glamour. It is now time for programme-makers to take a fresh look at their portrayals of the working class, gaining inspiration from early productions such as 'Cathy Come Home.'
