The man below is a British citizen. He is standing trial as a war criminal. The jury is now in Belarus, tracing the path he is alleged to have taken to the forest where 2,700 Jews were slaughtered. Leading them is a man who says he saw the shooting
Article Abstract:
Anthony Sawoniuk is standing trial on four counts of murder during the time when the Nazis invaded the Soviet Union. He is the first person to be charged with war crimes in the UK since Parliament approved legislation in 1991 permitting the police to begin murder investigations for crimes allegedly undertaken during the second world war by people who subsequently became British citizens. Sawoniuk has admitted that he was a volunteer policeman in the German auxiliary police force in Domachevo, Belarus, but denies all charges of murder.

Fear of far right grips Austria's remaining Jews
Article Abstract:
The growing popularity of the extreme-right Freedom Party, headed by Jorg Haider, is creating concern among Jews in Austria. Haider has been using words from the Nazi era as he seeks to encourage Austrians to no longer feel guilty about their role in the Holocaust. Some of Austria's 7,000 Jews are now planning to leave the country, fearing that a climate of hatred will develop. There is particular concern among older Jews, who remember how the Jews suffered during the Nazi era.
