The need for NEDs in burgeoning businesses

Article Abstract:

It is likely that a non-executive director can play a valuable role within the management structure of a small business, although there is very little information available on this subject. Non-executive directors can be particularly useful in helping managers to draw up business plans and strategies and ensuring that these are implemented appropriately. Research into the impact of non-executive directors on large companies indicates that they can boost the efficiency of board procedures and are in a good position to arbitrate during disputes.

Wanted: an ABC for greenhorn entrepreneurs

Article Abstract:

A shortage of appropriate advice could mean that many of the small businesses which are started up in the UK every year fail to flourish. Many small business managers are uncertain where to obtain advice about issues such as marketing and training. They also fail to make effective use of information technology.
