Article Abstract:

It is becoming increasingly difficult in the UK for young people to base their financial planning on their parents' experience. The financial certainties of the past are disappearing, and there are many uncertainties surrounding financial planning for the future. However, young people should be aware of the importance of always being flexible with investments in time and space. Some savings should be kept at short notice, and all financial arrangements must be diversified.

It is estimated that financial institutions in the UK hold around 28 billion pounds sterling in unclaimed cash and securities. There are many dormant bank and building society accounts, but approaches to tracing the holders of these accounts vary considerably between the different institutions. The British Bankers Association has a Dormant Bank Accounts questionnaire, and tracing of dormant bank accounts has now become centralized.
