The world is not a pretty place

'The police officers behaved towards us like white masters during slavery.'

Article Abstract:

Doreen Lawrence, mother of Stephen Lawrence, the black teenager who was murdered in Apr 1993, has stated that her family was extremely badly treated by the police officers who investigated her son's murder. She believes that police officers are still guilty of racism, and that this issue is not really addressed by Sir William Macpherson's report into the police investigation of her son's murder. Neville Lawrence, her husband, has expressed the hope that the report will be a catalyst for change.

Bringing it all back home

Article Abstract:

The tragedy unfolding in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, is a stark reminder of the importance of being prepared to fight for peace. Britons should be aware that their country has been guilty of forms of ethnic cleansing in the past, particularly with respect to the Aborigines in Australia, and should accept that violence and hatred are key elements of the human condition. Taking a moral stand against violence is admirable, but the only way violence can really be brought to an end is by retaliating in kind.
