The price was right for both of us

Article Abstract:

Mortgage lenders fail to agree with house prices agreed between buyers and sellers. Valuers reduce prices because of repairs needed to a property. Lenders offer 95% loans but in fact only give 90% to try to make more money. Down-valuations discourage an improvement in the property market. Buyers are the best judges of value. Some feel building societies choose those valuers who provide them with more mortgages. The Office of Fair Trading has referred the affair to the Monopoly and Mergers Commission.

Essex man has the last laugh

Article Abstract:

Essex property prices are dropping as quickly as they rose during the boom years, and this is benefitting local people who can now afford homes in their own area. Prices in the area have fallen by 30% in three years partly due to an epidemic of repossessions. Agricultural areas have been hardest hit but this has allowed people who live and work locally to buy property which they could not afford when incoming commuters inflated house prices out of their reach.

Trade in and trade up

Article Abstract:

Many people who are finding it hard to sell their house are turning to part-exchange schemes. Part-exchanging can be very quick and easy, but has still not become widely accepted. There are some restrictions on such deals, and builders often set limits on their offers or refuse to accept homes over a certain age. Exchanging can have some drawbacks, but it is very attractive to people who are desperate to move.
