The scent of blood

Article Abstract:

Theatre critics Jeremy Kingston, James Christopher, Michael Billington and Nicholas de Jongh have all agreed to direct a play at the BAC theatre in Battersea, London, England. Their efforts will be reviewed by four theatre directors. This approach raises some interesting issues regarding theatre reviewing in the UK and about the role of theatre critics. It is widely assumed that theatre critics are constantly clashing with directors, but in fact critics and directors have a great deal of respect for each other.

The man who knew too much

Article Abstract:

It is widely acknowledged among actresses in the UK that Alan Ayckbourn writes very attractive and powerful parts for women. He has written many female roles that are both fun to play and extremely perceptive. Actress Janie Dee, who is playing the lead role in 'Comic Potential,' Ayckbourn's 53rd play, feels that he writes the worst aspects of women into his plays. Actresses feel as if they are being opened up and shown negative aspects of themselves, which they find very stimulating.
