The seamy side of sexless Scotland

Article Abstract:

Scottish author and artist Alasdair Gray won the 1992 Whitbread Prize for Best Novel for this book 'Poor Things.' His books are unusual with his own pen and ink drawings and many footnotes as part of his creation. His books send up publishing and ridicule the literary establishment. He is working on an 'Anthology of Prefaces.' He trained at Glasgow School of Art and painted a lot before he began writing. Some of his paintings are similar to Stanley Spencer's but his pen and ink drawings of female nudes are like Eric Gill's.

What to do when your computer goes off the boil

Article Abstract:

When a computer fails to work, the first thing to check is whether the whole thing is faulty or only part of it. Before calling an engineer, the user should check the power lead is intact, check the cables to the screen are in place, check the screen is switched on and investigate the printed circuit board or card if the machine keeps re-booting. Computers should be serviced every two years, as household dust builds up through the fans. Floppy disks should be backed up regularly. Deleted data can usually be recalled.
