The value of protection

Article Abstract:

The Imperial Cancer Research advocates use of a good suncreen. A Health Education Authority survey indicates that people find suncreeen labels difficult to understand. UVB, one of the three types of ultra violet radiation, which in large amounts is a cause of sunburn and can trigger cancer, is expected to increase as a result of loss of the ozone layer through pollution. UVA, another type, believed to be safer, is now also believed to trigger cancer. Sunscreens which protect against both should be used. UVC does not affect the earth.

Snow is the icing on Salt Union's cake

Article Abstract:

Salt Union, based on the Winsford salt mine and the Weston Point plant in Manchester, was part of ICI's chemicals and polymers division until a management buyout in Apr 1992. Leading investors D George Harris and Associates made Salt Union part of an international group of salt companies. Manager Mr Cortazzi aims to eliminate the company's vulnerability to the weather by making snow a bonus rather than a vital need. Productivity has nearly doubled and a change to an entrepreneurial attitude speeds up action.

People wishing to invest should be prepared to invest for five, ten or fifteen years, in anticipation of 15% a year compound growth, versus 10% in industrialised markets.
