The wandering hero

Article Abstract:

Che Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado encountered many challenges on their journey across Argentina and into Chile in 1952. They took four weeks to cross Argentina, as Guevara fell ill and had to spend some time in hospital, and soon became short of money. They often succeeded in begging food and accommodation from local people, but were sometimes forced to fend for themselves in hostile conditions. Just before crossing the border into Chile, Guevara received a letter from the woman he loved telling him that she had decided not to wait for him to return.

Exeter marks the spot

Article Abstract:

The city of Exeter, England, has a long and interesting history. This is seen in its ancient wall and in structures such as Athelstan's Tower, which was built by the Normans. Parts of the wall were destroyed during the second world war, while others have been covered up by modern developments. It is particularly worth visiting St Peter's Cathedral, which features very large Norman towers and a Gothic nave. Other buildings of interest include the Guildhall and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum.

Northern exposure

Article Abstract:

The Scottish town of Thurso is not generally regarded as a tourist resort, being isolated and having a harsh climate. However, it offers extremely good surfing in winter. The extreme conditions make it suitable only for experienced surfers, some of whom travel great distances to surf there. There is a strong sense of comradeship among the local surfing community.
