The wurst of the 20th century

Article Abstract:

The exhibition of works of artist Sigmar Polke currently being held at the Tate Gallery Liverpool confirms his position as one of the most talented artists working today. He does not confuse art with politics, theory or morals, and his paintings show a remarkable largeness of spirit. He is able to exploit the power of a joke, and makes great use of the opportunities offered by printed fabrics, which he uses in preference to canvas.

Degenerate and proud

Article Abstract:

The Whitechapel Art Gallery in London is currently holding the first exhibition in the UK of a wide range of paintings by Emil Nolde. This exhibition clearly highlights the unevenness of the artist, who was very influential in German Expressionism but whose work sometimes verges on that of a pavement artist. He was always ready to take risks, so was never guilty of using stale formulae.
