There's only one way to stop Mr Livingstone now

Article Abstract:

Ken Livingstone's determination to run for Mayor of London, England, presents a significant challenge to the UK Labour party. It seems most likely that an attempt will be made to ensure that a party vetting-committee removes Livingstone's candidacy before the contest begins. However, this may create difficulties, especially if Livingstone decides to run as an independent candidate. An independent candidacy would have significant repercussions, especially as most Labour party members in London would prefer Livingstone to the other declared candidates.

The charismatic Dr Owen is back - but he won't stop the euro

Article Abstract:

Debate about whether the UK should join European monetary union is set to intensify as a result of the decision by David Owen, former leader of the Social Democratic Party, to speak out against the euro. Owen has emphasized that he regards himself as a European, but he believes that the UK can belong to the European internal market without having to align its economic and social policies with those of continental Europe. It is likely that he will put up an admirable fight but that he will not find widespread support for his views.

Newcastle Brown

Article Abstract:

UK Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Nick Brown has shown great intelligence and determination, and is also admired for his charm and dry humour. He has established friendly links with MPs of all political backgrounds, and remained calm and dignified when his homosexuality was revealed. However, he has been involved in some long-standing feuds, the most significant of which has been with Sir Jeremy Beecham, the leader of Newcastle City Council.
