These rebels may be game for a laugh, but they're good for nothing

Article Abstract:

It is possible that Rhodri Morgan, who has been selected by the Welsh Labour party as its candidate for the post of Welsh First Minister, will attract a considerable number of votes. However, voters will be aware that real power in Wales will rest with current Welsh Secretary Alun Michael. Similarly, Ken Livingstone, candidate for Mayor of London, England, may attract votes, but voters will be reassured by the fact that Prime Minister Tony Blair will continue to hold ultimate power. The same trend may be seen in Scotland, where the Scottish National Party may gain extensive support but Chancellor Gordon Brown will still be in control of the economy.

The man who said I had a funny name is not, of course, a racist

Article Abstract:

Many ordinary people in the UK feel uncomfortable with the growing prominence of ethnic minorities and of race-related issues, but would not regard themselves as racist. In fact, the Macpherson report into the police investigation of the racist murder of black teenager Stephen Lawrence makes it clear that the absence of an active desire to cause a person harm does not constitute non-racism. It is important to be aware that you can be a racist without really knowing it.
