Article Abstract:

Rock singer Debbie Harry, who was most well known for her performances with the group Blondie in the late 1970s and early 1980s, saw mixed success with a solo career for 10 years after the group split up in 1982. She began making a comeback in the mid-1990s, and in Jan 1999 launched the single 'Maria.' Her comeback has been greeted positively, unlike the comebacks made over recent years by a number of other stars from earlier decades. Some comebacks seem acceptable to the general public, while others are not.

Born 1953. Still here 2083

Article Abstract:

It is possible that medical technology will advance sufficiently in the near future for children born in the 1980s and 1990s to be able to live for up to 130 years without falling victim to the diseases normally associated with old age. It may be possible, for example, to replace damaged organs with new ones and to anticipate and address diseases or functional problems before they actually happen. Such a development is not really hard to imagine, especially as more and more people are now living to 100.

Paperback fighters

Article Abstract:

Borders is a US bookseller which has entered the British market, and this is a symptom of increased competition in the market. Waterstones is opening a book superstore in Picadilly, London, on Sep 14 1999. Readers tend to have an image of a book store as a small place with a knowledgeable owner. Waterstones uses different management tactics to Borders, and Waterstone shops have greater autonomy, while Borders aims to attract people as a leisure venue.
